Right to Buy

If you are a tenant living in a council home you may be able to apply to purchase your property through the right to buy scheme.

Owning your own home offers you freedom, a step on the property ladder and of course a sense of pride. But there are a number of considerations to bear in mind if you are thinking of taking the leap to becoming a homeowner. Can you afford to take out a mortgage and commit to the regular payments? You will be responsible for the upkeep and overall maintenance of the property. If it is leasehold such as a flat, you will have to pay service charges for your share of the regular maintenance of the communal areas of the building. You will also be required to contribute to any large scale improvements or repair work carried out by the landlord.
